An article makes it clear that TimeTrack

This article is a contribution to a friend @ Bai Huan's 《自我量化指南》 in July 2019. If you want to use an article to explain the basic software operation of TimeTrack and aTimeLogger, it is appropriate to put it here as a guide to "software operation".

TimeTrack is a Belarusian developer (@ Sergei Zaplitny)). App, for full-time recording is currently available in iOS and Android versions, which you can search and download at AppStore and Mi Store, respectively.

The difference between TimeTrack and aTimeLogger

Both softwares are developed by @ Sergei Zaplitny, and the difference between them is shown below:

You choose different software versions according to your own needs.

My personal advice is that iOS users use TimeTrack, Android users use aTimeLogger.

After testing whether you are used to the recording method of the software before paying, and verifying that you do have the need to record time, it is not too late to pay to support developers. Cymbal.

To be clear, some iOS users will find aTimeLogger and aTimeLogger2 in AppStore, but the Android version is only aTimeLogger, where iOS's aTimeLogger2 is equivalent to Android aTimeLogger.

Why use TimeTrack

I began to record 24-hour full-time time in October 2016. up to now, I have recorded more than 20000 hours. I was the first to use aTimeLogger (Android) recording and transferred to TimeTrack (iOS) in 2019.

The original intention of the initial time recording was inspired by @ Zou Xin's 《小强升职记》and @ Li Xiaolai's 《把时间当作朋友》, hoping to improve his "awareness of time". Later, he made reference to a lot of @Teacher Jianfei 's practice, and formed his own time recording system.

Over the past three years, the most important change in time records for me is that "I can actively control the flow of time and achieve my goals through historical data."

The typical change is that my entertainment time has dropped from 17% to 6%, and my communication time has increased from 1.5% to 7%. I have a time goal in my head every day to remind myself of my progress.

According to my observation, the time record is particularly suitable for these three categories of people:

  1. If you want to know where your time has gone, complete the self-examination by recording.

  2. Record your life nodes and want to leave something for the world.

  3. Data geek, personal quantification enthusiast

How to use TimeTrack

Default settin

Open TimeTrack, to modify the default settings of TimeTrack as follows:

  1. More-Settings-when starting a new activity-pause an ongoing activity and start a new activity.

  2. Open "time interval conflict reminder" (TimeTrack Android is not available).

  3. Date format 2019-05Mui 13, time format 22:31.

  4. Export data format: yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss.

  5. The first day at the beginning of the time is set to "Monday"

  6. Turn on Show seconds.

  7. Minimum activity duration-not set

This is the default setting I recommend, and you can adjust it accordingly.

Get started quickly

After adjusting the appropriate default settings, you can get started quickly by mastering these skills.

  • Start / stop timing

Open the TimeTrack main interface, click the default icon, the software starts timing, click the pause button to pause the timing, click the stop button to terminate the timing, and the activity moves from the main page to the "history list" archive, if you want to start again, you need to enter the activity on the history list page, and the modification status is paused or in progress.

The software allows multiple activities to be timed at the same time, but it is not recommended to do so, which can result in more than 24 hours a day.

If you haven't paused or stopped since you started the activity, the software will keep timing whether you clear the background or turn off the phone.

  • New activity Category

The default activity category may not be to your taste, you can create the category you want. On the Category tab, click "+" in the upper right corner to set the event name, icon and color.

After the setting is completed, there is a sort icon in the upper right corner, which can be manually adjusted after clicking.

  • System data View

The software provides three graphic modes: pie chart, calendar view and column chart.

On the History list tab, click on the date above to change the view.

  • Target

Among the many categories, if you need to pay special attention to a particular indicator, you can use the "goal" function.

On the "target" tab, "+" in the upper right corner, create a new target, fill in the name and time, etc., "no less than" means least time, mostly used in gain target, "no more than" means most time-consuming, mostly used in damage target, progress bar will change in red, yellow and green over time.

  • Search

If you are not used to exporting data analysis, you can also use the software's built-in search function directly.

In the History list tab drop-down, select the data date range, and search for keywords.

Classification skills

The most troublesome and unavoidable question of starting time recording is "how to classify time?" I recommend dividing all time items into one and two levels. Among them, the first-level classification is less than 7, and the second-level classification is less than 30, too few are incomplete, too many can not be remembered, and it is better for the number to be exactly 1 screen.

It is recommended that beginners keep another activity definition table, as shown in the figure:

Regularly review activities that you don't know how to classify at the time, and then add specific actions to the definition list.

Remote control.

At present, both TimeTrack and aTimeLogger are available on mobile, and the desktop version is still under development.

For people who are inconvenient to use their phones frequently at work, the alternative is to use an Android simulator.

  • Download and install NetEase MuMu Simulator.

  • Log in to your TimeTrack account and synchronize your data.

  • Re-modify the software default settings.

  • If there is a synchronization error, just restart the software.

Data export

To export data:

  1. More-reports-[Select time]-Export reports-CSV- sharing.

  2. Use WPS to open the CSV file (Excel garbled, open with notepad and save to ANSI format).

  3. Save to the data source table and analyze it

What data can be analyzed?

Once you have the data, you need to use your imagination to extract key information from the data. The most common analysis angles are:

  • Frequency

  • Summation

  • Ratio

Then you need to use a little imagination and ask yourself questions, such as you can ask.

What am I doing after work?

Select the details in CSV, create a PivotTable, sum the duration of the active items, and descend the order.

Filter out the working days and select the period from 19 to early morning, as shown in the figure:

Suppose your data is like this, in addition to "sleep", the second place is "entertainment". Can you say that you continue to study after work and improve yourself by reading and writing?

The advantage of an honest record is that it keeps your false excuses hidden, faces your fears, and stimulates change.

Should I change my job?

Suppose there are two jobs now, with a monthly salary of 10,000 and a monthly salary of 13,000 after changing jobs, an increase of 30%. Should I change jobs? Leaving aside other factors such as the environment, we will calculate the account from the perspective of "hourly wage".

Filter "work" in the PivotTable to find the sum of the duration of each month, then create a new column, fill in the current month's salary, use the monthly salary / working hours of the current month, get the "hourly rate", select the data, and insert the line chart.

As shown in the figure:

We found that after changing jobs in January 2018, the hourly wage dropped from 85 yuan / h to 62 yuan / h, a negative growth of 22%.

On the surface, wages rise by 30%, but real hourly wages are negative by 22%. From an hourly point of view, this is not a good decision.

How far are you from the master?

If we use the "10,000-hour law" to measure the proficiency of a skill, have you reached 10,000 hours of proficiency?

What is the concept of 10,000 hours?

Do one thing 8 hours a day for 3.5 years without interruption.

For me, I spend an average of 20 minutes a day on TimeTrack records, plus 20 minutes of weekly analysis, 1 hour of analysis per month, and 10 hours of annual report summary each year.

Apart from deliberate practice, purely from a time point of view, I need to adhere to 25 years in order to achieve master achievement. What about you? Take a look at your time record. Which activity item has achieved the master achievement of "10,000 hours"?

Summary

If you focus on "accuracy" and want to record full-time rather than block records, then I highly recommend that you use TimeTrack.

In the process of recording time, you will be "aware of time" at first, especially when the activity switches to "damage time". Clicking this action is the first warning to tell yourself, "Hey, it's damage time. Be careful with it."

In addition to being good for self-reflection, these time records can also be accumulated and passed on. As time goes on, you will have the ability to "time travel" and quickly "return" one day to look for key clues in your life.

"once time goes by, you can never get it back."

Cherish time, this is the most common people should seize the opportunity to make a comeback.
